Save Time With WOX/ALFRED -“Best Search Engine For PC”

How to save time during PC work? In this post I will discuss how I use WOX in my hp Probook to increase my working efficiency/productivity. Everyone want a faster computer, but along with a faster computer you should have some really productive application that will facilitate your working efficiency.

The Objective:

Computer was discovered in the objective of minimizing the time expenditure. On that note we use Computer. I spent a huge amount of time in front of a computer/Laptop. I feel it’s really important to maximizing my working efficiency by any means.
“The ultimate objective is to minimize the time delay/lag between the user thinking of a command, and the computer executing that command.”

The Solution:

There are lots of ways to be more productive on computer, here I am talking about the ‘Skip to Action’. The Free applications are WOX(Windows), ALFRED(Mac) which are too much productive computer application.
Yes! I do my actions skipping lots of intermediate small actions by using WOX on my Computer. Let me give some examples.

Alt+ Space to Run WOX in Windows

CMD+ Space to Run Alfred in Mac

  • I want to know something from Google search

Usual way:

Move your cursor to Task bar
Click on Search button-Search Browser / Click on Browser
Move your cursor to address or Search panel
Type your query – Press enter/ Hit search

I do:
Alt+Space
Just typing my Query
Hit enter

  • I want to know about Herd Immunity from Wikipedia

Usual way:

Move your cursor to Task bar
Click on Search button-Search Browser / Click on Browser
Move your cursor to address or Search panel
Type your query(Herd Immunity)-Press enter/ Hit search
The move your cursor to the search results to find the Wikipedia result
Click on the Wikipedia search result

I do:
Alt+Space
Type wiki herd immunity
Hit enter

(wiki– is the Hotkey for Wikipedia)

 
 

  • I want to search Books from Amazon

Usual way:
Move your cursor to Task bar
Click on Search button-Search Browser / Click on Browser
Move your cursor to address or Search panel
Type Amazon to search from google / Type web address        www.amazon.in
Hit enter to search the website /to enter the website directly
Type Books in the Amazon Search panel
Hit Enter

I do:
Alt+Space
Type az books
Hit enter

(az– is the Hotkey for amzon)
 

 

  • I want to search a MacBook review in youtube

Usual way:
Move your cursor to Task bar
Click on Search button-Search Browser / Click on Browser
Move your cursor to address or Search panel
Type Youtube to search from google/ web address www.youtube.com
Hit enter to search the website /to enter the website directly
Type MacBook review in Search panel of Youtube
Hit Enter

I do:
Alt+Space
Type yt MacBook review
Hit enter

(yt– is the Hotkey for Youtube)

 

  • I want to see a WAR movie from my computer Storage folder

Usual way:
You will go to-My Computer
Open The Drive where the movie is located
Then to the particular folder
Double click on that File to Open

I do
Alt+Space
Type WAR movie
Select the particular file & Hit enter to run


 

Like these there are lot more features I use.
1.Opening Files (i.e E drive-Documents)
2.Opening Apps (i.e Notepad)
3.Searching Google/URL search
4.Searching Youtube
5.Searching Wikipedia
6.Spotify search
7.Google Translator
8.Add Todo/Search Todo (i.e td-Meeting on 5th Aug)
9.Calculator (= 1243+987)
And lot more.
*Note: Default Hotkeys/Shortcuts are different. I customized them according to my choice. You can customize too from settings.
You can add more features like Shortcuts/Hotkeys, Theme, more Plugins etc

Installed Plugins are in the Left Side.You can add more plugins from Find more plugins
You can add/edit the Action Keywords for different Plugins/Search engines/Web searches.

‘=’ for Calculator ;    ‘/’ for direct URL search  ;    ‘wiki’ for Wikipedia seacrh etc

Closing Remarks

So yeah, that’s how I use WOX to improve my working efficiency when using my HP ProBook. The aim (as with most productivity tools) is to minimize the time between thinking of an action and getting the computer to perform the action.
If you haven’t tried using WOX/Alfred, I’d suggest downloading it (it’s free!) and giving it a go. Though the Mac built-in spotlight works quite well these days, and in fact, quite a few people prefer it to Alfred. Either way, using the keyboard to navigate a computer tends to be much quicker than using the mouse/trackpad, so you’ll save a lot of time in the long run.
