Janina Gavankar does a cover of Kanye’s ‘Love Lockdown‘ I like the way her vocals build up the intensity of the song. The instrumental which is so prominent on the original because of the drums, especially at the bridge, is somewhat subdued but has a more mysterious effect. The video is well shot and quite creative. I like the bit where she’s trapped and the only light is through a large keyhole. The editing could have been tighter though as some of the sound didnt sync to the video too smoothly.

Both Drake and Chris Brown refer to their relationships to Rihanna in their respective songs…shes a lucky girl?
Rumours circulated that Drake and Rihanna were a couple last year when they spent time at New York bowling alley Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge, where they were allegedly spotted kissing throughout the evening. Recentyly, he has been rumoured to be speaking about Rihanna in his song ‘Fireworks’ featuring Alicia Keys, The 23-year-old raps:
“I’m just such a gentleman… I can tell it wasn’t loveI just thought you f**k with me/Who could have predicted, lucky strike, would have you stuck with me?/I kept my wits about me luckily/What happened between us that night, it always seems to trouble me/Now all of a sudden these gossip brags wanna cover me, and you making it seem that it happened that way because of me.”
Drake recently told Billboard that he had written about a past fling on ‘Fireworks’, saying: “In the second verse, I address the relationship that I’m often questioned about and I duck and dodge questions about it.” Which more or less confirms it.
The song ‘Deuces’ by Chris Brown featuring Lil Wayne’s protégé Tyga and Kevin McCall, has just hit the Internet and is rumoured to be about Rihanna aswell. The second song hails from a collaborative mixtape titled “Fan of a Fan,” which was released online last week as a thank you to their respective fan bases. Chris sings:
“All that bullshit is for the birds
You aint nothin but a vulture
Always hopin for the worst
Waiting for me to fuck up up
You’ll regret the day when I find another girl, yeah
Who knows just what I need, she knows just what I mean
When I tell her keep it drama free”
Nice Chris very nice ¬.¬ But the song is really good and the video is uber cool. Colin Tilley is an amazing director!
Lights – Second Go Video

I recently discovered this artist LIGHTS real name Valerie Anne Poxleitner, shes a 23 year old Canadian singer song-writer. First of all she is gorgeous. Secondly, she also seems to be quite creative through her videos and also comics on her site. According to her she makes ‘intergalactic-electro music’…nice
I really love the video and the fact that in a sense it has nothing to do with the lyrics. She just wonders around white surroundings painting everything with colour…poetic, beautiful, amazing. Also the video is shot using time lapse and all in one take as well. Still the words match up, which would have been quite difficult to do.

His best video to date. The storyline really compliments the song without overwhelming it and also leaves us on edge. Mavado plays his role well as do all of the characters, the lead girl is played by professional model Maliah Michel, whos featured in videos with the likes of Fabolous, Trey Songz, Lloyd and Game. Shot in Kingston, Jamaica by Anthony Mandler who also directed ‘Over‘ the lead single off the debut album Thank Me Later, this being the second single. I love this song as it shows Drakes diversity as an artist and the Kanye West production is major. It also feels like a really personal song which always helps.

Tune. I like the light hearted approach of the video, sort of goes with the song. Skepta continues to break barriers, his previous single ‘Bad Boy‘ having gone Top 20 independently. Is it still grime? I guess it dosen’t really matter as long as it sells.
WTF with the spikes?

Jason Derulo recently released the video for his 3rd single ‘Ridin Solo’ and he can be seen sporting a white jacket with spikes on it as if hes some goth. Ok skinny jeans have been made fashionable and are not too singled to one genre anymore. However, the spikes dont even make sense just take em off please!
I like the fact that he uses a Honda rather than any super car which all artists use. This may also be the first video to feature an iPad? I dont see why you would have one in a club though…a bit pointless. Also the song itself is utter shite/pop nonsense. From a R&B artist ever since his ‘Watcha Say‘ hes gone down hill for me…even his second single ‘In My Head‘ couldn’t top his prior hit.
Personally i dont like the direction his music has taken since then, still, im all for diversity. I love the first 15 seconds of the video showing off his singing ability. At the end of the day he can sing and dance well so he can still expect reasonable success in the years to come.

Jme the lyrical genius and Tempz the hype machine combine effectively resulting in a decent track, produced by Jme himself. Aptly titled ‘CD Is Dead’…go get a day job instead, Jme says on the chorus available to purchase on May 30th. This could be for the release of his second studio album.
It consists of similar theme to Sway’s ‘Download‘ ‘People Dont Wanna Pay For C.D’s, Now Every Other House Holds Got P.C’s, They Download On Mp3′s, People Please Be Reasonable, How Am I Gonna Make My G’s, If You Got My Album Before The Release, The Qualitys Rubbish And There Aint No Sleaves, Do You Deem That Feesable?’
The video is made by Digital Dropout and features slick animation which is common in their work. Having previously worked with Jme on ‘Over Me‘ and also others in the scene including Skepta’s ‘Sunglasses At Night‘ and Chipmunk’s ‘Beast‘ to name a few.

The lyrical genius that is Lupe comes back with his third album Lasers with the video of the lead singe ’I'm Beamin’ produced by the Major, Grammy winning duo of Pharell Williams and Chad Hugo Aka The Neptunes. The video is quite creative and makes good use of a lot of cut outs, simple animation and some cool light effects. Its directed by Shomi Patwary who worked with him previously and also with the likes of Kanye West and Clipse.
What do Scorcher & Young Money have in common?

i recently rediscovered this Scorcher ‘Dark Knight’ video and it reminded me of the latest Young Money singles ‘Roger That’ video. Both employ comic-book style animation and feature the respective artist as characters, untouched by the animation.
Scorcher’s attempt is his 3rd single off his Grime Album ‘Concrete Jungle‘ produced by Target and the video was directed by Scorcher himself. This video is more experimental and was realeased in December ’09 i quite like the effects in the video and it proves that the gap with America is lessening.
Young Moneys version is also their 3rd single off their No.1 US Rap Album ‘We Are Young Money‘ and the video obviously seems to be of a bigger budget. Its a comic-book strip version of their world where they live fabulous hectic lives. This video however, is less experimental and quite rigid to its theme.

The song is magical…so is the video. Pretty much exactly how i would’ve directed it
Two thumbs up to Petro.
I also like the bit at the end where she takes control of the camera and reveals the production…some what of a tribute…nice.
